“THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH, AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH” (Part 1)

This portion of an oath taken in the courtroom prior to giving testimony in a trial is familiar to many, if not most, of us. An equally commonly quoted and misapplied phrase is a portion of John 8:32 that states: “The truth shall make you free.” As is always the case, a verse or passage of Scripture, to be correctly interpreted, understood, and applied, must be taken in the context in which it was originally written or spoken. Let’s properly “unpack” these words of Jesus: “The truth shall make you free.”

  1. Only knowledge of God's truth brings true freedom

  2. In an age of universal deception, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

  3. Truth and love are inseparably linked for all of time and eternity.
